To get started <a href=\"https:\/\/puppy-in-training-com.kit.com\/3f55a1e8ec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\"><strong>CLICK HERE<\/strong><\/a>.<\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Your Puppy Hits A Few Milestones&nbsp;At Around 4 Months Old<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vaccinations &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>Your puppy gets his <a href=\"https:\/\/puppyintraining.com\/do-you-have-a-puppy-vaccination-schedule\/\">rabies vaccination<\/a> which also signals the time when your puppy&#8217;s immune system is well developed. &nbsp;This is always a time of relief for me as I&#8217;m not as worried about the places I take my puppy.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Feeding Schedule<\/strong> &#8211; We reduce <a href=\"https:\/\/puppyintraining.com\/marley-and-me-part-3-puppy-feeding-schedule\/\">our puppy&#8217;s feeding schedule<\/a> by going from 1 cup&nbsp;of food 3 times a day to 1.5 cups of food 2 times a day. &nbsp;I don&#8217;t have to worry anymore about that mid-day snack. &nbsp;My other dogs are also happy because they don&#8217;t have to get excited about a non-existent meal (for them).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Teeth<\/strong> &#8211; they start to fall out and as the teeth disappear so does the <a href=\"https:\/\/puppyintraining.com\/the-ultimate-guide-how-to-stop-a-puppy-from-biting-and-nipping\/\">puppy&#8217;s bitey, nippy, mouthy behavior<\/a> (thank goodness).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>QUICK RECOMMENDATION:<\/strong> We feed all of our puppies <a href=\"https:\/\/puppyintraining.com\/wellness-core-puppy-food\" rel=\"sponsored nofollow\">Wellness Core Puppy Formula<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Should Your Puppy Know At 4 Months Of Age?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Okay, Colby, vaccinations and feeding schedules aside what should my puppy know when he hits his 4-month birthday?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>House Training<\/strong>&nbsp;&#8211; It&#8217;s around this time that our puppy has fully grasped potty training. &nbsp;If not, they are usually very close with not much more than 1 accident per week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Crate Training &#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>Can sleep through the night without incident. &nbsp;Can also stay in the crate for short periods during the day without barking, crying, howling, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Good House Manners<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Stays&nbsp;off the furniture.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Usually not&nbsp;100% at this age, but a puppy is allowed more freedom around the house.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Can sit\/down and wait for food for 30+ seconds until released.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>&nbsp;Socialization<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Places &#8211;<\/strong>&nbsp;pups are usually well-behaved on these types of outings.\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Neighborhood walks<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Restaurants<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Grocery Stores<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shopping centers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Movie Theaters<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Book Stores<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Obedience Classes<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Indoor\/Outdoor Shopping Malls<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hockey Games<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>People<\/strong> &#8211; pups are usually &#8220;good&#8221; with meet\/greets with people at this age<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dogs<\/strong> &#8211; pups are usually &#8220;just okay&#8221; at dog meet\/greets.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Basic Obedience<\/strong>\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sit &#8211; Usually close to 100% without distractions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Down&nbsp;&#8211; Usually close to 100% without distractions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;Can sit\/stay or down\/stay without distractions for 30+ seconds.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Come &#8211; About 80% reliable with recalls without distractions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Heel (Loose Leash Walking) &#8211; good&nbsp;with loose leash walks in known places like your neighborhood.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>QUICK RECOMMENDATION:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1119558476\/?tag=minlikwat-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Puppies for Dummies<\/a> is a great book that will teach you the foundations of raising and training a puppy. Eh&#8230;she&#8217;s probably a little younger in this pic.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>I usually notice puppy bliss during the 4-6 month period as my puppy is still relatively small (compared to his full size) and cute, he behaves well, listens, and understands most of the basics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, for some reason around 6 months, puppies seem to hit a regression (at least mine do).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My pup stops listening, he no longer&nbsp;understands his cues, and he&#8217;s much bigger and not as easy to handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I feel like we always take a step back with our puppy&#8217;s training around the 6-month mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think it&#8217;s kind of like the defiant teenage years we see in our human children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So what do we do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anytime we hit a regression in training we take a step back and start working from the beginning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For instance, if our puppy starts having potty accidents in&nbsp;the house after we&#8217;ve given him a little freedom then we&#8217;ll put him back on his leash when in the house and keep an eye on him 100% of the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This allows us&nbsp;to catch him before he has an accident in the house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>QUICK RECOMMENDATION:<\/strong> We recently started training our puppies to alert us when they have to go potty by using a potty-training doorbell called the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B073XCY6Y6?maas=maas_adg_A5033F73CA360F32850952542C66C0B8_afap_abs&amp;ref_=aa_maas&amp;tag=maas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\"><strong>Smart Bell<\/strong><\/a>. It requires a little bit of training, but it&#8217;s a good alternative to your dog scratching up the backdoor.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How Was Archer As A 4-Month-Old Puppy?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>QUICK UPDATE:<\/strong> It&#8217;s been several years since we first wrote this article. Archer is now a working service dog helping a little girl with a traumatic brain injury.
