We compiled a list of service dog schools with adoption programs to help people find adoptable service dogs. #servicedogadoption #guidedogadoption #assistancedogadoption #servicedogschools #careerchangedog #adoptapuppy #puppyadoption\" class=\"wp-image-26675\" srcset=\"https:\/\/puppyintraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/service-dog-school-adoption1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/puppyintraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/service-dog-school-adoption1-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/puppyintraining.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/service-dog-school-adoption1-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Our ultimate list of service dog schools with adoption programs.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>We originally posted this article back in 2016 and we are currently making updates now in late 2023 adding new links to adoption programs as well as updating the old ones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing we noticed as we were updating our list of service dog schools with adoption programs is the adoption fee has increased significantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A few years ago the adoption fees were generally in the $500 &#8211; $1,000 range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today&#8217;s list has many programs with adoption fees above $3K and the highest fee we encountered was from Little Angeles Service Dogs at over $8K to adopt one of their career change dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><strong>QUICK RECOMMENDATION:<\/strong>&nbsp;Before you adopt a puppy or even think about adopting read a good book like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/1119558476\/?tag=puppyintraining-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener sponsored nofollow\">Puppies for Dummies<\/a>. This will give you a solid foundation on how to raise, train, and socialize a puppy. Career change service dogs have a solid foundation in obedience, house manners, and socialization, but you&#8217;ll have to maintain this excellence by continuing with your adopted pup&#8217;s training.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I scoured many websites to find the exact adoption pages of each service dog organization.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This allows&nbsp;you to&nbsp;just click directly on the link and voila&#8230;you&#8217;re at either the career change\/retired&nbsp;service dog adoption page, the actual adoption form, or a page with more information on the organization&#8217;s adoption program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Ultimate List Of Service Dog Schools With Adoption Programs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So without further adieu. \u00a0Here&#8217;s our\u00a0ultimate list of service\u00a0dog organizations and their career change\/retired service dog adoption page:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alaska<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/pawsforpurplehearts.org\/career-change-dogs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Paws For Purple Hearts Alaska<\/a> &#8211; Direct link to their adoption application form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Alabama<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.servicedogsalabama.org\/contact\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Service Dogs Alabama<\/a> &#8211; Direct link to the contact form. SDA has a 100% adoption rate to excellent homes for all dogs that do not make it through our program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">California<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.berginu.edu\/rescue-dog-program.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bergin University<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211; Bergin College of Canine Studies has launched a new rescue dog program. Rescue dogs are trained and placed for adoption.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/canine.org\/service-dogs\/our-dogs\/released-dog-adoption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Canine Companions for Independence (CCI)<\/a> &#8211; &#8220;Dogs may be released from the program for any number of medical and\/or behavioral reasons. This may include orthopedic problems, allergies, cataracts, assertiveness, inappropriate vocalizations, anxiety, and more.\u00a0 The adoption fee for a released Canine Companions dog is $1,000.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gooddogservicecanines.org\/faqs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Good Dog! Service Canines<\/a> &#8211; Dogs that are not suited for service work become <br>&#8220;Release Dogs&#8221;. The adoption fee ranges from $2,000 &#8211; $8,000.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidedogs.com\/about-guide-dogs-for-the-blind\/dog-departments\/career-change-dogs\/dog-adoption\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guide Dogs for the Blind<\/a> &#8211; Most of the dogs are between 1 and 2 years old, and can be any of our breeds: Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers, and Labrador\/Golden Cross. The regular adoption fee for these dogs is $2,000.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guidedogsofamerica.org\/adoption\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guide Dogs of America\/Tender Loving Canines<\/a> &#8211; Due to the high demand the waitlist is over five years long. GDA is not accepting new applications at this time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/guidedogsofthedesert.org\/about-guide-dogs-of-the-desert\/contact-guide-dogs-of-the-desert\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Guide Dogs of the Desert (GDD)<\/a> &#8211; GDD no longer has a dedicated adoption page on its website. You can contact them directly by going to their contact page.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/littleangelsservicedogs.org\/our-dogs\/adopt-a-pet\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Little Angels Service Dogs<\/a> &#8211; Little Angels had the highest adoption fee amongst all of the organizations in our research. The $8,000 adoption fee includes flight-delivery or in-person pickup, supplies, training, and lessons.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.samsimonfoundation.com\/adoptable-pets.asp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Sam Simon Foundation<\/a> &#8211; Our professional trainers carefully select our dogs by evaluating them for temperament, health, and eagerness to please.
