Congratulations! You have a new puppy and have so much to do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Housetraining, crate training, exercise, vaccinations, play, socialization\u2013and more. Your head is swimming with all that\u2019s required for your furry addition to meet his potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You can do it! But don\u2019t forget another important piece of the puzzle to raising a well-rounded puppy: creating a puppy routine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s important to make a daily schedule<\/a> for your puppy. Puppies thrive with routine.<\/p>\n\n\n

It also helps them understand what\u2019s expected of them and to feel secure and confident. And he\u2019ll adjust to his new life when there\u2019s a schedule. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remember: he was either with his littermates and mother or in a shelter or foster home before entering your new world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So a daily schedule will make him feel more secure than if everything in his new environment is haphazard\u2013and therefore scary in his view. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it may lessen the chance that he\u2019ll develop separation anxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A schedule will also help your family be less stressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And it will make your family be participants in the puppy\u2019s development. This is something to be proud of\u2013in addition to being amazing to watch unfold. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, having a list of who\u2019s performing what tasks regarding the puppy will take the stress off of any one individual being solely responsible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a bonus: everyone who takes responsibility for your puppy will have a better bond with him. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So scheduling is a win for you and a win for your puppy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I get a new puppy, my husband and I both have set duties regarding who does what tasks that are required and when. Of course, we adjust them when required by our schedules.<\/p>\n\n\n
