Are dogs faster than humans?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who can run faster?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is it man\u2019s best friend or is it man himself?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I’ll get straight to the point the fastest human cannot beat the fastest dog in a race<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, there are many different breeds of dogs that all have different top speeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Plus there are many different humans who also have different speeds. I’d guess that most of us have a low top speed moving from the couch to the refrigerator and back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, let’s dig a little deeper into the question.<\/p>\n\n\n

Are Dogs Faster Than Humans?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Now before you go out and race the nearest dog you can find, we have the answer to this question, right here, right now, so save your breath!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many of you have probably heard of Usain Bolt, the record setting Olympian who holds the \u201cfastest man on Earth\u201d<\/em> title.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But how fast does he run?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Usain Bolt<\/a> reached a top speed of 27.8 miles per hour \/ 44.64 kilometers per hour<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wow, that\u2019s fast!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The average person however doesn\u2019t run that fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While there are many factors that play into how fast we can run such as gender, age, height, fitness level and how healthy you are, the average human can run around the 10 miles per hour mark.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When I pump the treadmill up to 10 mph my heart feels like it’s going to explode and I’m terrified that I might fall off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My current upper speed limit is probably something a little higher than 10. Let’s say my top speeds is 12 mph.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now let\u2019s compare that to dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may have a breed in your mind that you think is the fastest and if you guessed Greyhound, you\u2019re right!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Greyhound<\/a> can reach astounding speeds of around 45 miles per hour \/ 72 kilometers per hour<\/strong> \u2013 and you thought humans were fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bet you didn\u2019t see that one coming!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s the approximate top speed<\/a> of some popular dog breeds:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  2. Saluki – 42 mph \/ 68 kph<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  3. Ibizan hound – 40 mph \/ 64 kph<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  4. Afghan Hound – 40 mph \/ 64 kph<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  5. Vizsla<\/a> – 40 mph \/ 64 kph<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Yowzers! Most fast breeds would run laps around the average human. I guess chasing after my dog really is a pointless venture if she doesn’t want to be caught.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
